Parramatta Road

(Shop numbers shown in brackets)

Probably the most important road which runs through the Ashfield local government area, Parramatta Road runs east west and divides Haberfield from Ashfield, Summer Hill and Croydon.

Parramatta Road is an enigma for both state and local governments alike. A state task force set up a number of years ago to look at and plan for the redevelopment along Parramatta Road has stalled and now with funding tighter than ever is likely to remain in limbo for some time.

In the meantime market forces have been operating to generate their own metamorphosis of this tired old thoroughfare.

The old Peek Freans biscuit factory is now a Bunning's Hardware Store, Brescia Furniture is nothing but a burned out shell and charred remains of a once dominant business, the historic buildings that once made up the Yasmar Correctional facility remain unattended and rapidly deteriorating, and some car yards are deserted and desolate.

One bright spot on Parramatta Road is Milano Furniture which has been operating and growing for over twenty years. Eddie Tezel will be more than happy to show you the latest offerings in their catalogues.
